Reports reaching The News Chronicle indicate that two residents of the Asokoro extension area of the Federal Capital Territory have been abducted by unknown gunmen.

It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the area at about 11 pm on Sunday, November 3, 2023, and whisked away two persons.

A resident of the area, identified as James, explained that the kidnappers pointed a gun at one of the landlords whom they used to gain access to the second victim.

“It happened around 11 pm on Sunday. Because of the heat, one of the landlords slept outside. They saw him and pointed a gun to his head. They asked him to take them to his house, and he showed them, but they were not satisfied with the kind of house he lived in.

“There were other big houses next to his house. So, they went with him and asked him to knock on the gate of one of the houses. When he knocked, being a well-known neighbor, the gate was opened for him. That was how they accessed the man’s house and kidnapped him.”

“The second landlord had issues with his car and came home with a motorcycle. He was about to enter his house when they attacked him and whisked him away,” he added.

Sources say that two hours after the incident, the kidnappers contacted the families of the victims demanding 10 million naira for each of the victims. Though one of the families pleaded to pay N2m and gave an assurance that they would get it almost promptly, the armed men rejected the offer and threatened that if the 10 million was not complete, they would kill the hostage.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, to comment on the matter did not yield results.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Mohammed Seidu, confirmed the incident to the press, stating that efforts were on top gear in collaboration with the police to ensure the safe return of the victims. He also added that the policemen attached to the Asokoro Police Station have been notified on the matter.
