Four security officers and two civilians lost their lives after bandits launched a violent assault on a Mobile Police (Mopol) base in Garagi, Yartsamiyar Jino Village, located in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The attack, which took place on Tuesday, has sent shockwaves through the local community, as one additional officer was left injured during the chaos.
According to reports the heavily armed bandits not only targeted the police base but also managed to seize rifles from the fallen officers before fleeing the scene.
The brazen nature of the attack has raised concerns over the rising insecurity in the region.
A local resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed further destruction caused by the attackers.
“The bandits set fire to classrooms at the primary school in Tsamiyar Jino, which had been serving as a temporary camp for the security forces,” the resident said, highlighting the devastating impact on local infrastructure.
Efforts to contact the Katsina State Police spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, for an official statement on the incident have so far been unsuccessful.
The silence from law enforcement has left many questions unanswered, as the community mourns the loss of lives and grapples with the aftermath of the attack.
This incident marks yet another escalation in the ongoing struggle against banditry and violent crime in northern Nigeria, leaving residents worried about the safety of their communities amidst the growing threat.
