An advance security team assigned to the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, was attacked by unidentified gunmen early Tuesday, December 2, 2025, near the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Imo State.
The attack happened between Umuowa and Ihite junction, close to the airport entrance, while the three-man team was on official duty.
In a statement released shortly after the incident, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, confirmed that although the official vehicle was ambushed, Governor Otti’s main convoy was not part of the attack.
He also confirmed that no lives were lost during the incident.
