Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Thursday evening ambushed the convoy of Mouktar Lugga, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Zamfara State, along the Funtua–Gusau highway near Kucheri village.

According to reports, the attackers opened fire from both sides of the road at about 6:16 p.m. as Lugga was returning from an official engagement.
A bullet pierced the windshield of the vehicle, narrowly missing the driver, while another assailant reportedly attempted to shoot at close range but his weapon jammed.
Despite the sudden attack, the driver managed to skillfully maneuver the vehicle out of the ambush, allowing all occupants of the convoy to escape without injuries.
The incident adds to growing security concerns along major highways in the region, where travelers and public officials have increasingly become targets of suspected bandit groups
