Awka – Gunmen numbering about 20, in the early hours of Monday, attacked the headquarters of the 13th Zonal Command of the Nigeria Police Force, located at Ukpo in Dunukofia Council Area of Anambra State.
A visit to the scene by TNC correspondent this morning, revealed burnt vehicles and structures belonging to the Zone.
It was gathered from a police officer, who pleaded anonymity, that the hoodlums were repelled from getting into the armoury department of the place, after hours of burning and shooting.
Unconfirmed sources further revealed that two out of the 54 personnel of the zonal command were killed by the gunmen in the attack which was said to have lasted for hours.
Efforts by our correspondent to get the spokesperson of the Zonal Command, Nkiru Nwode, to respond to the reports, have not been successful as at the time of filing this report.
Following the incident, heavily-armed police personnel have been deployed to the zonal command headquarters.
