The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) from their off-campus hostel along Awe Road, near the institution’s temporary campus in Akunza, Lafia.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the attack occurred at about 9:21 p.m. after armed men reportedly knocked on the students’ door before forcing their way into the residence, The NewsChronicle gathered.
“The students were at home when the gunmen arrived. They knocked on the door and gained entry,” Nansel said.
He described the hostel as being in a remote and vulnerable location behind a high-tension power line, close to a bush path leading to Awe town, warning students against living in isolated areas in search of cheaper accommodation.
“That place is close to the bush. The gate can easily be pushed open. It’s not a place anyone should live. Rather than staying alone because it’s temporary, students should pool resources and rent safer accommodation together,” he advised.
Nansel disclosed that security operatives have rescued one of the three abducted students, while efforts have intensified to secure the release of the remaining victims.
He said the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units and patrol teams to the area, with a coordinated search-and-rescue operation now underway in the surrounding forest to track down the kidnappers and rescue the remaining students.
