Gunmen abduct Plateau traditional ruler

Gunmen on Monday morning kidnapped the paramount ruler of the Bogghom people of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, Pankwal of Bogghom, His Royal Highness Alhaji Shehu Suleiman at his palace in Kanam, The New Telegraph reports.

Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council, Hon. Abbas Wokdung, who confirmed the incident, said the traditional ruler was kidnapped at about 1:00 am on Monday by unknown gunmen.

He said the Council is working hard in collaboration with the state government and security operatives to secure the safe release of the traditional ruler.

“We are trying our best in conjunction with the state government and security operatives to ensure the release of His Royal Highness, but for now we are yet to established any contact with the kidnappers and no ransom demands have been made yet,” he said.

The Pankwal Bogghom is a second class chief in Plateau State.

The Senator representing Plateau Central in the National Assembly Sen. Hezekiah Dimka in a press statement issued to journalists in Jos on Monday and signed by his Senior Legislative Aide Hon. Shehu Kanam expressed his displeasure over the sad incident.

The Senator noted that Alhaji Shehu Suleiman is a man of peace who always advocated for peaceful coexistence in Plateau.

The statement said that the Senator is in touch with the family of the Pankwal, and the relevant authorities to ensure the timely release of the paramount ruler.

The Plateau Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Obah Ogaba when contacted said he has been trying to reach the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kanam to get information on the incident and promised to get back to our reporter as soon as he was able to contact the DPO.
