A quiet night in Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra, was shattered when police operatives swooped in on a motel, hauling in three men over alleged firearm and drug offences.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed that the trio — aged 39, 26 and 18, are now cooling their heels in detention over alleged illegal possession of a firearm and suspected involvement in illicit drug dealings.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement issued Thursday in Awka that the arrest followed actionable intelligence received late on Feb. 9. Acting swiftly, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, descended on the motel and caught the suspects in what authorities described as a decisive crackdown.
A search of the premises reportedly yielded a Jojef pump action gun bearing breach number 21SA-0724, loaded with three live cartridges — a discovery that added fuel to the fire.
According to Ikenga, interrogation of the suspects peeled back more layers of the onion.
”His confession led to the arrest of the other two suspects and the recovery of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, Crystal Methamphetamine, Colos, and Mkpuru-mmiri.”
The police spokesperson reiterated that the command remains steadfast in its resolve to flush out criminal elements from every nook and cranny of the state, vowing that the long arm of the law would not grow weary.
He appealed to residents to keep their ears to the ground and continue volunteering credible information that could strengthen security operations.
Ikenga assured that the public would be kept in the loop as investigations gather steam and more facts come to light.
