Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued three kidnapped victims after engaging terrorists in a gun battle along the Dandume-Sheme Road in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The operation was launched on Thursday, September 3, 2026, following a distress call from residents reporting terrorist activities along the highway, The News Chronicle reports.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police, mobilised to the area and made contact with the terrorists.
The security forces overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bush and abandon their victims.

A subsequent search of the area led to the rescue of three kidnapped victims and the recovery of two vehicles allegedly used by the terrorists.
The victims and recovered vehicles were later handed over to the Divisional Police Officer, Dandume, while troops continued aggressive patrols across the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or carrying out further attacks.
The operation underscores the military’s continued efforts to deny terrorists freedom of action and protect lives and property across the Joint Operations Area.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended residents for their support and urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security outpost.
