Grammy Award Gospel Singer Mandisa Lynn Hundley dies at 47

Grammy-winning American Idol and Gospel singer Mandisa Lynn Hundley has passed away at the age of 47.

The news was revealed by Mandisa’s publicist via PA news agency that she was found dead in her home on Thursday.

The April 19 statement read: “We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased. At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details.”

“At this time, we do not know the cause of death or any further details,” they wrote.

“We ask for your prayers for her family and close-knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

Recall that Mandisa in 2014, won the Grammy in the best contemporary Christian music category for her record Overcomer.

Her 2011’s What If We Were Real, 2009’s Freedom and 2007’s True Beauty also received Grammy nominations.

She also competed in season five of American Idol in 2006 and finished ninth place.

In her 2022 memoir, Out of the Dark: My Journey Through The Shadows To Find God’s Joy, Mandisa had revealed her struggle with depression and grief and how she came through.

During her lifetime, Mandisa also served with the Lifeway women’s ministry team and Living Proof Live events, as a worship leader.

Lifeway CEO Ben Mandrell told Baptist Press, “Our team at Lifeway is heartbroken to hear of the passing of our friend and former co-worker.”

“Her teammates recall the joy and kindness she brought to work every day. Our heartfelt prayers are with her family.”

As K-Love chief media officer David Pierce posted on X acknowledged, “…Mandisa’s struggles are over, she is with the God she sang about now.”
