Govt Draws Red Line on School Abductions

The Federal Government has once again underscored its determination to fortify security in and around educational institutions, ensuring safer learning spaces for students and citizens across the country.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, made this known during a visit to Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, as part of a Federal Government delegation. The remark was contained in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim, in Abuja.

Idris described the recent rescue of some abducted pupils of St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papyri, Niger State, as a moment of immense relief for both the nation and affected families. He stressed that the safe return of the children brings “a moment of profound relief for their families and the entire nation.”

He added: “We are grateful for the tireless work of our security agencies, the swift response of the Niger State Government, and the strong community cooperation that made this outcome possible.

“I want to reaffirm the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to strengthening security around schools and safeguarding students and citizens nationwide.

“We also want to state that the protection and welfare of Nigerian children remain a central priority of the Federal Government. Our children must be able to learn safely.

“The Federal Government is committed to working closely with states to boost school security and ensure that such violations of our collective peace have no place in our country.”

The Minister applauded the synergy among security operatives, the Niger State Government, and local communities, noting that their collective effort was instrumental in the success of the rescue mission.

According to the statement, Governor Bago appreciated the Minister’s visit and lauded both the security agencies and community members for their crucial roles in securing the pupils’ release. He also reaffirmed the state’s readiness to maintain strong cooperation with the Federal Government on matters of security and social stability.
