Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has assured that 27 Islamic colleges will be completed to enhance Arabic and Islamic studies within and beyond the state.
Speaking at the launch of the 18th National Conference in Maiduguri, commemorating International World Arabic Day, he expressed commitment to supporting the promotion of the Arabic language nationwide.
“Arabic is a valuable language, and we must ensure its promotion. Borno State aims to establish 27 Arabic colleges, and we’ve already set up eight. God willing, we plan to complete all before the end of my tenure,” Governor Zulum stated.
Professor Muhammad Umaru Ndagi from the University of Abuja emphasized the historical significance of Arabic beyond its religious context.
He highlighted that Arabic was once a language of science and technology globally.
“Arabic was crucial in the ‘translation movement,’ and without it, Europe would lack knowledge in science and technology. We, as students, scholars, intellectuals, and academics of Arabic, must revive Arabic as a language of science and technology,” Professor Ndagi urged participants.
In a recent development, the Academic Society for Arabic Language and Literature in Nigeria (ASALLIN) bestowed an esteemed accolade upon the distinguished Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum.
This noteworthy recognition, aptly named “Faris Lugga Arabiya,” can be translated as the “Knight of Arabic Language.”
The significance of this award its tribute to Governor Zulum’s unwavering dedication to advancing the instruction and acquisition of the Arabic language within the confines of Borno State.
The organizers of the event articulated their intention to acknowledge and celebrate Zulum’s commendable efforts in fostering the teaching and learning of Arabic.
Adding a touch of formality to the occasion, the award was ceremoniously presented to Governor Zulum by none other than Professor Ibrahim Muhammad, the esteemed Director of the Nigerian Arabic Village located in Ngala.
This gesture served as a testament to the governor’s impactful contributions and commitment to the enrichment of Arabic language education in Borno State.
