Governor Zulum inaugurates Azare mega water works in Borno

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, recently unveiled the Azare mega water works in Hawul Local Government Area in southern Borno.

This big project aims to solve the ongoing problem of not having enough water in Azare town and nearby areas.

The Azare Water Works is just one of the eight major water projects started by Governor Zulum’s administration all over the state.

While some, like Ngarannam, Moramti, Pulka, Chibok, and Azare, are finished, others like Madinatu, Shokwari, and Musari are still in progress.

This water facility has a really big capacity. It can hold up to 565,000 liters of water altogether.

There’s a huge tank that can hold 400,000 liters of water on top of a strong base, and another tank that holds 165,000 liters on a tall steel frame. It gets its power from solar panels generating 22,000 kilovolts.

There are also powerful pumps to move the water, and a network of pipes stretching 5 kilometers to distribute the water to different areas. Along these pipes, there are many taps for people to get water easily.

The facility also has several solar-powered boreholes underground, going down about 100 meters, which can pump out more than 10 liters of water every second.

During the official opening, Governor Zulum said, “I am very proud to open the Azare mega water works today, the 17th of March, 2024, to help the people in this community.”

The Commissioner of Water Resources, Engr Tijjani Goni Alkali, mentioned that under Governor Zulum’s leadership, they’ve built more than ten underground and hybrid boreholes, as well as 17 hand pump boreholes, and repaired 20 hand pumps in Hawul Local Government Area.

Engr Alkali explained that by finishing the Azare mega water project, they’re achieving their goal of providing clean water to the people of Hawul Local Government, which will help reduce sicknesses caused by dirty water.
