Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State paid a visit to the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, in Abuja On Friday.
The visit was a gesture of appreciation for the Nigeria Customs Service’s unwavering support to Borno State, particularly in the areas of trade facilitation and border security.
The meeting underscored the vital role that the Nigeria Customs Service plays in supporting Borno State, a region that shares international borders with three neighboring countries.
During the meeting, Governor Zulum took the opportunity to highlight the strategic significance of Borno State, which borders Cameroon, Chad, and Niger.
He emphasized the unique challenges that come with managing these borders, including security threats and the need for efficient trade facilitation.
The governor stressed that a strong collaboration between the state government and the Nigeria Customs Service is crucial for addressing these challenges effectively.
Governor Zulum expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts and dedication of the Nigeria Customs Service in supporting Borno State.

“We are immensely grateful for the dedication and assistance that the Nigeria Customs Service has consistently provided to Borno State,” Governor Zulum remarked. “Given our borders with Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, robust border management is essential. We are eager to further strengthen our relationship with the Nigeria Customs Service to ensure the safety and prosperity of our state.”
In response, Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi expressed his gratitude for the governor’s visit and assured him of the Customs Service’s continued commitment to supporting Borno State.
He acknowledged the importance of the support the agency has received from the state government, which has been instrumental in enabling the Nigeria Customs Service to fulfill its core responsibilities.
“We deeply appreciate the cooperation and support we have received from Borno State in carrying out our duties,” CGC Adeniyi stated.
“The Customs Service remains committed to enhancing and facilitating legitimate trade while ensuring the protection of our borders.”
The meeting concluded with Governor Zulum extending a formal invitation to the Comptroller General to visit Borno State.
