Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has strongly condemned the suicide attack that occurred at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, a suspected suicide bomber entered the mosque during Maghrib prayers, killing five worshippers and injuring 35 others.
Governor Zulum, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, described the attack as wicked, barbaric and inhumane.
He expressed deep sadness over the incident and extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
“I am deeply saddened by the suicide attack at the Gamboru mosque on Wednesday evening during Maghrib prayers, which claimed five lives and left 35 others injured. This act is utterly condemnable and a direct attack on innocent worshippers,” the governor said.
He added that attacking a place of worship is a serious violation of its sanctity, especially at a time when people are engaged in prayers.
Governor Zulum prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and wished those injured a quick recovery. He also called on residents to remain vigilant, especially during the festive period.
The governor assured the public that the state government has put adequate security measures in place to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of residents during the festivities and beyond.
