Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has appointed Professor Muhammadu Attahiru Jega, the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as the new Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the governing council of Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK).
Governor Sule emphasized that Professor Jega’s appointment aims to enhance academic pursuits and promote a lasting culture of academic excellence at NSUK.
He praised the university’s achievements in scholarship, teaching, research, infrastructural development, and international collaborations over the past two decades.
Highlighting Professor Jega’s esteemed career, including leadership roles in ASUU, vice chancellorship at Bayero University Kano (BUK), and chairmanship of INEC, Governor Sule expressed confidence in Jega’s ability to contribute to NSUK’s vision.
The governor also underlined the meticulous selection of other governing council members based on their experience and service records to provide the necessary support for Professor Jega.
During the inauguration ceremony at the Government House, Governor Sule commended the outgoing Pro-Chancellor/Chairman, Professor Adamu Baikie, and Vice Chancellor, Professor Suleiman Bala, for their contributions to the university.
In his response, Professor Jega appreciated the governor for the appointment, citing Sule’s commitment to public education and development in Nasarawa State as motivating factors.
He pledged the council’s dedication to achieving Governor Sule’s vision of making NSUK the best university in Nigeria.
The newly inaugurated governing council includes Dr. Ahmed Gero, Alhaji Shuaibu Abdullahi Kore, Mr. Thomas Ari Ogiri, and Hon. Mary Enwongulu as members.
Additionally, Barrister Labaran Magaji and Mohammed Sani Bala represent the Ministry of Justice and Education, respectively.
Prof. Abdullahi Adamu Suleiman, Prof. Benedict C. Uzoechi, Prof. Adua Mango, and Dr. Adamu T. Ogah serve as representatives of the university’s senate.
Dr. Tanimu Yusuf and Comrade Buhari Abdullahi Suleiman represent the congregation, while statutory members include Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed, Prof. Abdullahi Sallau Modibo, Prof. Theophilus Daniel Lagi, and Bala Isyaka Ahmed II.
