Governor Radda to revive struggling Songhai Farms in Katsina

Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, has made a commitment to revive the inactive Songhai Farms’ centers established during the tenure of former Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema at Makera village and Mairuwa Dam in the state.

Governor Radda provided this assurance during a visit to the Songhai farm in Porto-Novo, Benin Republic, accompanied by key government officials and Dr. Salisu Ingawa, the Former Chairman of the Songhai Farm Centre, over the weekend.

Expressing concern about the deterioration of the two Songhai models in Katsina, Governor Radda highlighted the neglect of these centers despite being established around a decade ago.

He emphasized the need to rejuvenate these facilities for the benefit of the youth in the state.

Referring to a similar center built a decade ago, Governor Radda lamented its current dilapidated state and the missed opportunities to utilize it fully for the development of young individuals in the state.

The governor pledged to replicate the successful concept observed at the Porto-Novo Songhai farm.

During the tour of the Porto-Novo Songhai farm, Governor Radda expressed satisfaction with the program concept and articulated the government’s interest in understanding the management structure of the farm center in Porto-Novo.

He sought advice on effectively managing the dormant Songhai farm centers in Katsina and expressed openness to a partnership for the revival of these agricultural initiatives.

Governor Radda outlined the administration’s commitment to learning and adopting successful practices from the Porto-Novo Songhai farm, emphasizing the potential benefits for Katsina State’s economic development.

In a bid to ensure the successful revitalization of the Songhai farms in Katsina, Governor Radda requested guidance from Father Godfrey Nzamujo, the founder of Songhai Farms.

Nzamujo, in response, commended the Governor’s vision and pledged support to realize the ambitious goal of revamping the Songhai farms in the state.

Governor Radda expressing the government’s interest in forming a partnership with Songhai Farms, seeking assistance in developing and managing the centers for a specific period before transitioning control to the people of Katsina.
