Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State is set to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor’s Political Adviser, Mr Istifanus Nwansat, disclosed this on Monday in an interview with journalists in Abuja.
Nwansat said the decision was taken after careful consideration, noting that the ongoing crisis within the PDP had made the party an unreliable platform for political activities and future elections.
He explained that joining the APC was considered the safest option with the least political risk for the governor and his supporters.
According to him, the planned defection would also help align Plateau State with the political direction and governance agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Nwansat added that Governor Muftwang believes it is in the best interest of the state to work closely with the President, stressing that the administration recognises and appreciates Tinubu’s efforts to address national challenges.
He said the governor felt it was reasonable, as a leader, to guide his people toward a political alignment that would promote stability and development for Plateau State.
