Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State, on Tuesday, announced N200,000 gift for each of the 1,600 Batch B, Stream 1 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members assigned to serve in the state. 

This gesture was made to encourage the corps members to remain in Niger State for their service year.

The announcement was made during the NYSC Batch B, Stream 1 orientation ceremony held at the temporary camp in Paikoro. The corps members responded with loud cheers and applause upon hearing the news.

Governor Bago explained that the financial support was intended to help the corps members feel more comfortable and motivated to serve in the state.

He said, “I am crediting each of your accounts with N200,000. This will enable you to be comfortable to stay in Niger State. This is to show you that there is prosperity in Niger State. I will do my best to ensure that Corpers enjoy serving in Niger State.”

In addition to the N200,000, the governor announced that any corps member who ventures into agriculture could earn up to N500,000 monthly.

He also revealed plans for a new NYSC camp with an investment of N5 billion. To improve the current temporary camp, he ordered the construction of more toilets and the drilling of five boreholes.

He also pledged to provide 20 cows and a trailer load of rice for the welfare of the corps members during their orientation.

Moreover, Governor Bago declared that corps members in the medical and health fields would receive automatic employment.

 He encouraged others to participate in the state’s agricultural sector, highlighting the government’s significant investment in mechanization to drive youth interest in agriculture.

“We are doing everything to drive the passion of the youths towards agriculture,” he stated, emphasizing the state’s commitment to creating opportunities for the corps members.
