Governor Kefas Releases N300 Million to Muslims in Donga For Construction of Mosques as Earlier Pledged

The Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas, has fulfilled his pledge to the Muslim community in Donga Local Government Area with the release of N300 million for the construction of new Mosques for three Islamic sects in the area.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner of Information, Barr. Zainab Jalingo issued to Journalists in Jalingo.

She said that the intervention follows recent disputes over the ownership and control of the Donga Central Mosque, which led to heightened tension within the community.

“The disagreement, involving members of Izala Jos, Izala Kaduna, Darika, and the Muslim Council in Donga, had raised concerns among residents and security agencies.

According to her, during a visit to the area at the peak of the crisis, Governor Agbu Kefas, assured stakeholders that his administration would take proactive steps to restore peace and foster unity.

“As part of the resolution process, he pledged to construct separate mosques for the affected sects to promote harmony and prevent further conflict.

The Commissioner stated in Fulfilment to the commitment, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Godfrey Dame, presented cheques totaling Three Hundred Million Naira to representatives of the sects.

“Each group received One Hundred Million Naira to enable them commence the construction of new mosques.

Speaking during the presentation, government officials reiterated the administration’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, and equitable development across all communities in Taraba State.

“The Governor’s swift response demonstrates responsible leadership and sensitivity to the needs of the people – Barr. Zainab mentioned.

Community leaders in Donga expressed appreciation to Governor Kefas for honouring his promise, describing the gesture as timely and commendable.

They affirmed that the initiative would go a long way in dousing tensions, strengthening unity, and preventing future misunderstandings among the Muslim faithful in the area.
