Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has recently communicated his discontentment regarding the present state of the civil service.
The governor has articulated his dissatisfaction with the existing conditions within the civil service, highlighting concerns and expressing a desire for improvement in various aspects.
This discontentment stems from a perceived inadequacy in the functioning and performance of the civil service, prompting Governor Agbu Kefas to voice his concerns publicly.
It is evident that the governor is actively seeking attention to the challenges faced by the civil service in Taraba State, emphasizing the need for reform and enhancement in order to address the shortcomings that have been identified.
He shared his concerns at the Government House in Jalingo over the weekend while receiving a report from a committee appointed by the state government to screen and select a permanent Head of Civil Service.
Governor Kefas, noting a perceived sluggishness in the State Civil Service, issued a stern warning to civil servants, urging them to fulfill their responsibilities diligently.
He assured that the committee’s report would not be ignored and revealed plans to transform it into a ‘Responsive Civil Service Monitoring team.’
This newly proposed team, according to Governor Kefas, will have the crucial responsibility of identifying areas that require training and capacity-building for civil servants.
In a move to support the monitoring team’s efforts, the governor directed the provision of office space and vehicles, assigning a six-month duration for their assignment.
Governor Kefas initiated the committee on January 5, 2024, with a specific mandate to scrutinize and recommend candidates for the appointment of the Head of Civil Service in the State.
The committee’s thorough examination of permanent secretaries led to the submission of its comprehensive report, paving the way for the appointment of a substantive Head of Civil Service following the conclusion of Suzy Jemima Nathan’s contract.
