Governor Kefas prohibits motorcycles in Jalingo, limits tricycle operations

—

In response to a noticeable upswing in criminal activities within the confines of Jalingo, the capital city of Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas has undertaken resolute and decisive measures to rectify the situation and ensure the safety and security of the residents and stakeholders in the state’s administrative hub.

A comprehensive set of measures has been put in place, as outlined in a statement by Mr. Koko Agbu, the Secretary of the newly formed Taskforce Committee.

In response to the emergency security meeting, Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali has been appointed to lead the Taskforce Committee.

This committee, comprised of heads of various security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, Road Safety, NDLEA, NSCDC, TARABA MARSHAL, and Chairman NURTW, is tasked with enforcing the governor’s directives.

Effective from February 22, 2024, a complete ban on the use of motorcycles (okada) has been implemented, emphasizing the need to curb criminal activities linked to their usage.

Simultaneously, the operation of tricycles (Keke NAPEP) is now restricted to the time frame between 6 am and 8 pm.

Stringent consequences await those who defy these regulations. The statement warns that defaulters will face arrest and subsequent trial by a mobile court.

Additionally, both motorcycles and tricycles found in violation of these rules will be confiscated and subsequently destroyed.

The gravity of the situation is underscored by the composition of the Taskforce Committee, which brings together key players in law enforcement and transportation.

By taking these measures, Governor Agbu Kefas aims to restore and maintain public safety, signaling a commitment to addressing the security challenges faced by the residents of Jalingo.
