The Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, has launched the disbursement of N300 million in Micro Enterprise Grants to 1,500 beneficiaries from the displaced Malum Dunari community in Gujba Local Government Area.
Malum Dunari remains the only ward in Yobe State yet to be fully resettled following displacement caused by insurgency-related conflict.
Speaking at the launch on Wednesday, Governor Buni described the intervention as a clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to recovery, stabilization, and the provision of durable solutions for communities affected by insurgency, displacement, and economic disruption.
He explained that the grant scheme complements ongoing investments in agriculture and infrastructure across Gujba Local Government Area, particularly in Goniri, which serves as the immediate host community for the Malum Dunari population.
“This intervention is another clear demonstration of our administration’s commitment to recovery, stabilization, and durable solutions for communities affected by insurgency, displacement, and economic disruption,” the governor stated.
Governor Buni also highlighted other development projects executed by his administration in the area, including the construction of a new Primary Health Care Centre, provision of motorized water boreholes, and installation of solar-powered streetlights in Goniri, alongside other community support initiatives aimed at improving security and living conditions.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Goje Mohammed, disclosed that each beneficiary from Malum Dunari will receive N200,000 to restart or expand their micro-enterprises.
He noted that beneficiaries were selected after undergoing rigorous training in small business management and entrepreneurship skills.
Dr. Mohammed added that the initiative aligns with Yobe State’s broader strategy to revive local economies, empower displaced persons, and strengthen community resilience through targeted economic interventions and sustainable livelihood support.
The program is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded under the Regional Stabilization Programme for the Lake Chad Region.
He also commended the Civilian Community Development and Resilience Network (CCDRN) for ensuring accountability, transparency, and due diligence in the beneficiary selection and enrolment process.
