Governor Buni Commends Tinubu’s Commitment to Lake Chad Peace, Security

Yobe State Governor and Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, Mai Mala Buni, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to sustainable peace, security and economic development in the Lake Chad region.
Buni made the commendation on Tuesday during his visit to the headquarters of the Lake Chad Basin Commission in N’Djamena, Chad.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, the governor said the Federal Government’s support for multilateral cooperation, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and regional stabilisation efforts remained crucial to achieving lasting peace and shared prosperity in the region.
Buni also congratulated the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, Ibrahim Babani, and assured him of the Governors’ Forum’s readiness to work closely with the commission.
He said insecurity, displacement, climate change, economic vulnerability and violent extremism did not respect national or administrative boundaries, stressing that the region’s challenges required solidarity, coordination and collective action.
The governor urged the commission to strengthen partnerships with the African Union, UNDP, international financial institutions, bilateral partners and other stakeholders to advance development and stabilisation efforts.
Buni also visited the headquarters of the MNJTF in N’Djamena, where he assessed its achievements and challenges in the fight against terrorism.
He pledged to seek increased support from the Federal Government and member states to strengthen the task force with the necessary resources, equipment and manpower.
Buni further promised to brief President Tinubu on the successes and challenges facing the MNJTF, including Niger Republic’s withdrawal from the task force and its resource and manpower constraints.
