The Minister of Environment, Mrs. Laurencia Laraba Mallam, on Tuesday said the federal government would do everything possible to bring an end to the persistent killings in the southern part of Kaduna State. She condemned the recent attacks and killing of 119 people in three communities in Kaura Local Government Area of the state.
While visiting the affected communities, the mass graves and the refugee camp she appealed to the people to be calm and remain law abiding, assuring them that the Federal Government would bring an end to the killings. Mallam, a native of the area was visibly in great pains.
She said, “I am saddened with the gruesome killing of people. I am really devastated by these killings; I want to assure you that the government will do everything possible to ensure the safety of lives and property. “I don’t want you to take the laws into your own hands by trying to take vengeance. I want you to continue to pray to God, for God says vengeance is His. So live in peace and leave everything to Almighty God. “I am assuring you that the President will do something about this incident.”
Receiving the minister in Manchok, the Vice-Chairman of Kaura Local Government Area, Mr. Daniel Anyip, said that the attackers came from neighbouring Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State which shares boundaries with some Kaduna communities. Anyip said 119 people were killed in the incident and many others were still missing.
He said, “The attackers always come through Riyom Local Government Area and carry out their attacks after which they flee.”
According to him, the military said they could not pursue them across to Plateau State because Plateau State was not their area of jurisdiction.
