Government owned lands to be used for farmlands, Minister hints

 The Federal Government (FG) has hinted plans on  increasing the amount of land available for agriculture on vacant lands of postsecondary educational institutions for the purpose of increasing the nation’s food supply.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari revealed this at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church’s Centennial Public Lecture and Food Summit at the weekend held in Port Harcourt.
 Nuhu Kilishi, the ministry’s deputy director for nutrition and food safety, spoke on behalf of the Minister, stated that letters requesting for the institutions’ authourization had already been tendered.
He revealed that several Tertiary institutions have already started to accomodate the proposal, confirming that the initiative will surely be an enabler in improving food security .
