Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has directed the immediate removal of all administrative bottlenecks delaying the implementation of the approved allowances for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state.
Otti gave the directive on Tuesday while receiving the newly posted NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Yunusa Tanimu, at his office in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
Expressing surprise over the delay, the governor said he had already approved the additional allowance and expected it to have been implemented.
“I am surprised that the extra allowance I approved has not been implemented.
“Please ensure that whatever the issue is, it is resolved immediately.
“The last time, I was told it had to do with the BVN, and I believe I addressed that. If there is any other challenge, please work with the Head of Service to resolve it,” Otti said.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of corps members, describing them as critical contributors to the state’s development, particularly in the education and healthcare sectors.
He also congratulated Tanimu on his posting to Abia and wished him a successful tenure.
Earlier, Tanimu said he was on a courtesy visit following his assumption of office as the NYSC State Coordinator in the state.
He appealed to the governor to ensure the full implementation of the approved allowances for corps members serving in Abia.
The NYSC coordinator commended Otti for his developmental achievements, particularly in infrastructure, and appreciated the administration’s continued support for the scheme.
He also appealed to the state government to renovate corps members’ hostels and the multi-purpose hall at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, construct internal roads within the camp, install solar-powered street lights, improve orientation camp logistics, approve enhanced allowances, provide a new state secretariat and release funds for furnishing the office.
Tanimu assured the governor of the NYSC’s continued commitment to supporting the development of Abia State and Nigeria.
