Gov Adeleke Declares Work-Free Day for PVC Collection Ahead of Osun Governorship Poll

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Tuesday a work-free day to enable residents, particularly public servants, to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday in Osogbo by the governor’s spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed.

According to the statement, all state government employees, including local government workers and staff of tertiary institutions, have been directed to stay away from work on Tuesday to obtain their PVCs.

Rasheed said the directive had already been communicated to workers through an official circular issued by the State Head of Service, Mr. Ayanleye Aina.

Governor Adeleke explained that the work-free day was approved to give public servants the opportunity to fulfil their civic responsibility by collecting their voter cards ahead of the forthcoming governorship election and future electoral exercises.

He, however, exempted workers providing essential services, including healthcare personnel and security operatives, urging them to make adequate arrangements to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

The governor also appealed to workers in both the public and informal sectors to take advantage of the opportunity to collect their PVCs without delay, describing the election as crucial to the future of Osun State.

He further encouraged all eligible voters to visit designated PVC collection centres promptly.

“Your vote is your power. Your voter card is your licence to the ballot and, by extension, to the ballot box,” Adeleke said.
