Google has announced that it is laying off hundreds of employees from its advertising sales team. This reflects a broader trend of job cuts as companies embrace artificial intelligence and automation. This comes shortly after Google’s recent layoffs in its Voice Assistant, hardware, and augmented reality units.

The tech giant emphasizes that its customer solutions unit, catering to medium-level advertisers, will be the key driver for future growth. These developments align with a broader industry shift, as Amazon.com also revealed layoffs in its streaming and studio operations last week.

Google, once at the forefront of AI research, introduced its AI model Gemini last month in a bid to compete with Microsoft in the evolving landscape. Notably, this follows Alphabet’s announcement in January 2023 to cut 12,000 jobs, constituting 6% of its global workforce.
