Google Maps has introduced new features for iOS and CarPlay users worldwide, offering enhanced navigation tools previously available only on Android.
These updates include a speedometer and speed limits indicator, which have been accessible on Android since 2019.
The speedometer displays the vehicle’s speed, tailored to regional preferences in either miles or kilometers.
The speed limits indicator changes color when users exceed the designated speed, providing a visual cue to help drivers stay within legal limits.
How to Activate
Users can activate these features by navigating to the settings within the Google Maps app: go to Settings > Navigation > Driving options.
Google emphasized that the speedometer is meant for informational purposes only.
Drivers should rely on their vehicle’s built-in speedometer for accurate speed readings.
These features are now being deployed globally, with early reports of availability in India.
Initially limited to select markets, the speedometer and speed limits features expanded to over 40 countries in May 2019 on Android.
The global rollout marks a significant enhancement for iPhone users, aiming to improve driving safety and compliance with speed regulations.
