In response to circulating rumors, Google, owned by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, has officially denied any plans to shut down Gmail.
Despite a viral hoax tweet suggesting otherwise, no official statements from Google or Alphabet have confirmed the closure of Gmail.
The hoax, which claimed Gmail would cease email functions by August 1, 2024, cited a supposed shift in focus from Gmail to other communication technologies.
This false notice emerged following Google’s suspension of its Gemini text-to-image AI tool due to misleading racial depictions.
Elon Musk criticized Gemini as “woke” and “super racist,” prompting Google to acknowledge the need for improvement.
Chris Bakke, X Product Lead, humorously claimed responsibility for the mix-up regarding the Gmail team termination in a social media post.
Google urged users to disregard the hoax and assures continued operation of Gmail without interruption.
