In a strategic move, tech giant Google has appointed Alex Okosi as the new Managing Director for Google in Africa. Currently, the Managing Director for YouTube in EMEA Emerging Markets, Okosi brings a wealth of experience in the media and technology industries to his new role.
In this capacity, Okosi will oversee Google’s operations in Africa, with a focus on programs aimed at fostering economic growth and expanding access to digital tools for the continent’s burgeoning population. Google has a strong presence in Africa, with offices in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, and its products and services are widely utilized across the continent.
Meir Brand, Vice President of EMEA Emerging Markets at Google, expressed confidence in Okosi’s leadership abilities, citing his deep understanding of African countries and his passion for leveraging technology to empower individuals and businesses.
Before joining YouTube, Okosi served as the Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Viacom International Media Networks Africa and BET International. During his tenure at YouTube, he played a pivotal role in driving the platform’s growth and expansion across Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey.
Speaking about his new role, Okosi expressed his excitement and belief in the potential of technology to improve lives and drive prosperity across Africa. He stated, “I’m a firm believer in the potential for technology and, in particular, the internet to improve people’s lives and to help individuals and businesses in Africa to thrive.”
