The Gombe State government has recently introduced a new mandatory monthly general sanitation initiative aimed at fostering a sustainable and healthy environment for residents across the state.Â
This initiative, spearheaded by Mohammed Sa’idu Fawu, the state commissioner of water, environment, and forest resources, seeks to address various environmental concerns and promote cleanliness within the community.
In a memorandum issued to all relevant stakeholders, including government agencies and the general public, it was outlined that the sanitation exercise would occur every last Saturday of the month, between the hours of 8:00 and 10:00 in the morning.
The memorandum emphasized the importance of the initiative in alignment with the administration’s commitment to ensuring the provision of a sustainable and healthy living environment for all citizens.
Furthermore, to ensure the effective execution of the sanitation exercise, strict measures have been put in place, including the restriction of movement during the designated hours, with exceptions only for essential services.
This restriction aims to minimize disruptions and facilitate the smooth conduct of sanitation activities.
The memorandum underscores the significance of compliance with the directive, with a dedicated team of officials from the Ministry of Water, Environment and Forest Resources, as well as the Gombe State Environmental Sanitation and Protection Agency (GOSEPA), tasked with monitoring and ensuring adherence to the guidelines outlined.
The introduction of the monthly general sanitation exercise reflects the proactive approach of the Gombe State government towards promoting a cleaner and healthier environment for the well-being of its residents.
