GOC commissions projects at 2 Battalion in Kaduna

Maj.-Gen. Valentine Okoro, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division Nigerian Army in Kaduna, oversaw the official opening of a newly renovated house for the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) at 2 Battalion.

Additionally, he inaugurated solar-powered boreholes, street lights, and the battalion’s headquarters gate located within Ribadu Cantonment, part of the 1 Division Nigerian Army in the Kaduna Area of Responsibility.

The battalion’s headquarters gate was given the honor of being named after the GOC, reflecting the significance of his leadership.

During the event, Maj.-Gen. Okoro emphasized that the overall history of the Nigerian Army would be incomplete without acknowledging the role of 2 Battalion, which stands as the second oldest Regiment in the army.

He highlighted the battalion’s crucial role in the developmental events and landmark achievements that have shaped the Nigerian Army since its inception.

The GOC underscored that the inauguration of these projects aligns with the commitment of the Chief of Army Staff to the welfare of personnel and their families.

He expressed gratitude to the officers for their hard work and dedication in fulfilling their constitutional duties.

Furthermore, he encouraged them to persist in their diligent efforts, assuring them of the division’s support and that of the Chief of Army Staff in carrying out their responsibilities.

Lt.-Col. MT Nasiru, the Commanding Officer of the battalion, reflected on Maj.-Gen. Okoro’s past role as one of the unit’s Commanding Officers.

He highlighted the GOC’s unwavering commitment to promoting proficiency and the various ways in which he has supported the unit.

“This support has manifested in various aspects of the activities of our administration and operational exigencies,”Nasiru said.

Nasiru expressed gratitude for the GOC’s financial and moral support, pledging the battalion’s ongoing dedication to implementing his ideas in alignment with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff.
