Nigeria recorded one of its strongest box office months of 2025 as films generated a total of ₦573.2 million between late September and October 2025
“Gingerrr” led with ₦435.5 million, while “The Herd” followed with ₦137.7 million, outperforming several international releases.
Gingerrr was released in September 2025, directed by Yemi Morafa and produced by Bolaji Ogunmola, Kiekie and Bisola Aiyeola. It opened with ₦82.8 million in its first weekend and maintained strong sales for six consecutive weeks.
According to the Nigerian Box Office, the film also posted the highest single-day ticket sales on Cinema Day (1 November 2025), surpassing international titles including Deadpool & Wolverine and The Equalizer 3. Cinema Day attendance rose by about 5% compared with 2024 despite ticket prices increasing from ₦1,000 to ₦2,000.
Released on 17 October 2025, The Herd earned ₦30.1 million in its first week and has now reached ₦137.7 million. The film was produced by Etim Effiong and co-produced by FilmOne Studios, ToriTori Films, Serendipity HHC and Airscape. It grew for two consecutive weekends, a rare achievement for a non-December Nollywood title.
“The Herd continues its strong run, posting two consecutive weekend-on-weekend growths at the Nigerian box office, a rare feat for a non-December release,” the Nigerian Box Office said in a statement.
Industry analysts say the results reflect audience taste in favour of Nollywood storytelling, which has been supported by digital marketing, influencers and online fan communities.
Other films that contributed to October’s performance included:
Trons: Ares – ₦107.7m (third week)
Blackphone 2 – ₦23.8m (second week)
Idia – ₦18m (second week)
Regretting You – ₦4.4m (opening week)
