The Ghanian Football Federation has announced that Chris Hughton has been sacked following his poor performance in the ongoing AFCON in Côte D’Ivoire.
The Black Stars failed to win any of their three group games, amassing two points from two draws and a loss in group B.
Ghanaian fans were put into colossal disappointment on Monday evening when they blew away a 2-0 lead in the added minutes against Mozambique. Ghana conceded two late goals in the 92th and 94th minutes respectively to finish third place in Group C.
The Association announced the dissolution of the technical crew and would provide a road on the future of the Black Stars:
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior national team with immediate effect,” a GFA statement late on Tuesday read.
“The executive council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.
“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars.”
Hughton joined the GFA as a technical advisor in February 2022 and worked alongside head coach Otto Addo. He was confirmed as the head coach after Otto Addo left his place of employment.
Hughton is widely experienced with his antecedent in the Premier league where he coached elite clubs like Brighton, Newcastle, Tottenham, Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest and Norwich City.
