Starting May 1, 2024, Ghana’s National Identification Authority (NIA) will implement fee adjustments for various services, including first-time registration for Ghana Cards, card replacements, and updates of personal information.
While first-time registration at NIA District Offices remains free, charges will apply at other locations. Notably, first-time registration at NIA Premium Centres will cost GHc310 ($23.01), and card replacements at these centres will be GHc420 ($31.17).
Ghanaians in the ECOWAS sub-region seeking first-time registration will now pay $55, while those requiring record updates with card replacement will pay $27.5. Additionally, nationality updates at NIA regional and district offices will be GHc70 ($5.20).
This announcement follows the National Communications Authority’s warning to over 11 million active SIM card users in Ghana to register their SIM cards by the end of May 2023 to avoid deactivation.
Ghana’s move aligns with recent developments across Africa regarding national identity cards.
