Commencing February 1, 2024, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has exclusively designated its mobile application for services like New Service, Separate Metres, and Additional Load applications.

This shift aligns with ECG’s commitment to digital transformation and enhanced customer support.

Customers applying through the app are urged to provide precise information, as contact will be established based on the details furnished.

The application process mandates the submission of necessary paperwork for efficient processing.

As a government-owned entity under the Ministry of Energy, ECG has been a pivotal electricity provider to southern Ghana. Notably, in 2020, the Ghanaian government introduced an ECG mobile app, initially for prepaid credit purchases.

The app has evolved to encompass bill payments, real-time energy monitoring, and reporting, offering a seamless, paperless experience.

In a customer-friendly move, ECG clarified that app-based payments would be exempt from mobile money transaction fees or the e-Levy.

Simultaneously, ECG has ventured into the electric vehicle (EV) industry, collaborating with POBAD International in November 2020.

This partnership aimed to deploy EV charging systems across select locations in Ghana. As Minister of Energy Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh disclosed in November 2023, this initiative contributes to Ghana’s increasing adoption of plug-in electric vehicles, numbering 17,000.

The collaborative pilot project with POBAD is expected to yield valuable insights into the impact of EV charging systems on ECG’s electricity distribution networks, energy consumption rates, and related considerations, further emphasizing ECG’s commitment to technological innovation and sustainability.
