Ganduje Rejects Kano Government’s Call for His Arrest, Says Allegations Are Baseless

Former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, has dismissed the Kano State Government’s call for his arrest, describing the allegations against him as “baseless,” “reckless,” and a clear attempt to divert public attention.
The government, through Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ibrahim Wayya, said after Friday’s executive council meeting that Ganduje’s recent comments about insecurity in the state were suspicious.
Wayya claimed that bandits attacked border communities less than 48 hours after Ganduje’s remarks, suggesting his statements may have been connected to the incident. He also urged security agencies to investigate and arrest Ganduje for allegedly attempting to form an unlawful militia group.
In a response issued Saturday by Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, the former governor said the accusations reflect “desperation” and “incompetence” on the part of Governor Abba Yusuf.
Olofu said the government’s actions amount to an “abdication of responsibility” by a leader who has failed to protect the lives and property of residents.
“It is unfortunate that instead of addressing the rising insecurity in the state, Governor Yusuf is busy looking for scapegoats to cover up his failures,” the statement said.
Olofu noted that despite recent attacks in Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa, and other areas, the governor has not visited or shown sympathy to victims, saying his absence “speaks volumes” about his disconnect from the people.
He added that Ganduje governed Kano for eight years without being linked to violence, arguing that the former governor’s peaceful track record stands in contrast to what he called the “directionless” leadership of the current administration.
“Governor Yusuf should focus on protecting the people of Kano instead of issuing unfounded allegations and engaging in political drama,” Olofu stated.
He concluded that leadership requires action, responsibility, and compassion—not press conferences and frivolous accusations.
