The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has said that Fulani bandits and herdsmen should not be identified as Muslims, arguing that there are no mosques in their camps or settlements.
The monarch made the remarks during a recent public address, where he also spoke about his role as a traditional ruler and spiritual leader.
“Fulani bandits are not Muslims; you won’t find a mosque in their camps, and herdsmen also have no mosques in their settlements,” Oba Akanbi said.
He added that his pronouncements are guided by divine revelation. “I always speak the truth because I hear directly from God, and God speaks through me,” he stated.
The comments come amid ongoing debates about insecurity in parts of the country and the identity of those behind kidnappings and attacks in forests and rural communities.
