Fuel Relief: Ogun Workers Get Weekly Break, ₦10k Bonus

In a move aimed at softening the harsh bite of rising fuel costs, the Ogun State Government has rolled out fresh relief measures for its workforce, including a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport stipend for a three-month period starting April 2026.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Thursday by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, who explained that the initiative is designed to ease the growing financial strain caused by soaring transportation expenses and the general cost of living.

Onasanya said the intervention was a direct response to the economic pressure confronting workers, noting that it seeks to offer some breathing space amid current realities.

He stated, “Towards providing succour to the teeming workforce of Ogun State in light of the hike in the pump price of fuel in the country and its attendant impact on the cost of transportation and general standard of living, Gov Dapo Abiodun has graciously approved one day off duty in a week for workers in the state.

“This is in addition to the payment of ₦10,000.00 special transport allowance as palliatives for three months commencing from April, 2026.”

According to him, beyond offering immediate relief, the policy is also expected to boost morale and enhance overall productivity within the civil service.

However, the Head of Service clarified that personnel in critical sectors, such as healthcare workers, judicial staff, teachers, security operatives, and departmental heads, will not partake in the weekly off-duty arrangement, though they will still receive the transport allowance.

He further noted that accounting officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will be responsible for scheduling the off-duty days for eligible staff, ensuring that government operations continue without disruption.

Onasanya praised the governor for what he described as a well-timed intervention, urging civil servants to respond with renewed commitment and greater efficiency in service delivery.
