The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has conducted a free medical screening exercise for motorists, commercial drivers and transport union members in Gombe State.
The exercise was organized as part of activities marking the 2026 Customer Service Week, themed “The Extra Mile.”
While inspecting the one-day exercise in Gombe on Thursday, the FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Samson Kaura, said the initiative aimed to promote medical fitness among road users and improve road safety.

Kaura stressed the importance of regular medical examinations, urging motorists to pay closer attention to their health and ensure they were medically fit before driving.
He said the FRSC, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, deployed medical personnel to conduct the screening and provide necessary counseling.
“Today, we are going the extra mile to ensure that we provide these medical services to our esteemed customers.
“For you to be on the road, psychologically and medically, you need to be balanced, and that is why we are here to reach out to you and to ensure that we give these medical treatments,” he said.
According to him, the screening covered blood pressure, HIV, diabetes and eye tests, while drugs and medical counseling were also provided to beneficiaries.
Kaura said the initiative would not only promote safer road use but also strengthen the relationship between FRSC personnel and motorists.
The Coordinator, Gombe State Special Marshals, Mr Moses Nnadi, commended the exercise, describing it as timely, particularly given the cost of accessing medical services at health facilities.
Nnadi urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel and adhere to road safety regulations.
One of the beneficiaries, Malam Hassan, said he was certified medically fit after undergoing eye and blood pressure tests.
He said the free screening had saved him the cost of visiting a hospital for the same services. “I know that FRSC personnel are our friends, and they mean well for us,” he said.
