From Kano to the Crown: Yusuf’s Roads Lead Straight to London!

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has clinched the prestigious “Governor of the Year in Infrastructure Development” award at the 15th edition of the African Achievers Awards, held at the iconic House of Lords, Westminster Palace, London.
The accolade, presented by the Deputy Mayor of London, Mr. Mete Coban, celebrates the governor’s far-reaching efforts to reposition Kano through strategic infrastructure initiatives, including extensive road projects, urban renewal schemes, and the overhaul of vital public amenities.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Kano by Sanusi Bature, the governor’s spokesperson.
Governor Yusuf, who was unavoidably absent, was represented at the high-profile ceremony by his Special Adviser on State Affairs, Usman Bala, and the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Sanusi Bature.
While receiving the award on the governor’s behalf, Bala conveyed appreciation for the recognition, stating, “This recognition underscores Governor Yusuf’s dedication to prioritizing infrastructure that touches the lives of millions across Kano.”
The African Achievers Awards honour individuals and institutions across the continent whose work has made a tangible difference in governance, leadership, and social impact.
This year’s ceremony spotlighted notable figures, including the Governor of Benue State and the King of the Zulu Nation in South Africa, in a celebration of outstanding African excellence.
