Fresh Tension in PDP as Rival Factions Clash Over Control of Abuja Secretariat

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Saturday after a faction loyal to Nyesom Wike took control of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja following its reopening by the police.

The development came months after the party’s headquarters, Wadata Plaza, was sealed in November 2025 due to violent clashes between rival factions battling for control of the party’s leadership structure.

A faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed confirmed that the Nigeria Police Force had unsealed both Wadata Plaza and Legacy House in compliance with a court order.

The group praised the police for what it described as professionalism and adherence to due process, urging party members to remain calm and peaceful.

The crisis stems from a prolonged leadership dispute involving a rival camp led by Tanimu Turaki, which is backed by prominent governors, including Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed.

The dispute has triggered multiple legal battles, with a Court of Appeal ruling in March reportedly favouring the Wike-aligned faction.

However, the Turaki-led group has strongly rejected the takeover. Its spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, accused security agencies of bias and misuse of state institutions. He argued that the court judgment cited by the opposing camp had already been appealed and should not have been enforced.

Describing the situation as a case of partisan interference, the faction insisted it would continue to pursue legal remedies while calling on its supporters to remain calm.

The ongoing leadership tussle has further deepened divisions within the PDP, raising concerns about the party’s unity and stability as stakeholders continue to seek resolution through the courts.
