Fresh Rift Rocks NDC as Kwankwaso Flirts With Exit Over Ticket Sharing

—

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly threatening to quit the Nigeria Democratic Congress amid a fresh internal crisis over the sharing of party tickets in Kano State.

The dispute reportedly erupted after the party leadership replaced several candidates earlier nominated by the Kwankwasiyya bloc, triggering tensions within the state structure.

The move was said to be aimed at enforcing a pre-agreed 60/40 power-sharing arrangement between the Kwankwasiyya faction and the party’s original structure.

Under the formula, the Kwankwasiyya camp was expected to control 60 percent of elective positions and party offices, while the existing NDC structure retains 40 percent.

However, a document reportedly signed by Kano NDC Chairman, Hon. Hussaini Isah Mairiga, indicates adjustments to several federal constituency and state assembly tickets, affecting areas including Kumbotso, Nassarawa, Kano Municipal, Doguwa/Tudun Wada, Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa, Sumaila/Takai, and Gwale, as well as state constituencies such as Dala, Tarauni, Ungogo, and Dawakin Kudu.

The development comes just days after Peter Obi was reported to have formally named Kwankwaso as his running mate ahead of the 2027 general election.
