At least six people, including four National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and a Nigerian Army officer, lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the Yola–Song highway in Adamawa State on Wednesday evening.Â
The crash occurred near Barikin-Sajo when a military gun-truck conveying soldiers reportedly collided head-on with a commercial Hummer bus travelling from Kano to Mubi. The impact triggered a massive fire that engulfed the bus, trapping passengers inside.
According to the Adamawa State Police Command, four NYSC members, one soldier, and another passenger were confirmed dead. Eyewitnesses alleged that the military vehicle was attempting to overtake another vehicle at high speed on a bend before the collision.
Emergency responders and security personnel later evacuated the victims and cleared the wreckage from the highway. Authorities have commenced investigations into the cause of the accident.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns over speeding and dangerous overtaking on Nigerian highways, which continue to contribute to fatal road crashes across the country.
