Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly signed a $1.2 million (N1.9 billion) contract with Washington-based lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C. as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Documents filed with the U.S. Department of Justice show that the 12-month agreement was signed on March 10 and officially registered with the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) Unit on April 1.
Under the agreement, the firm will provide strategic advisory services, engage U.S. congressional and executive officials, and manage Atiku’s public image among key policymakers in Washington.
The lobbying effort will also include advocating on issues relating to Nigeria’s democratic governance, regional stability, economic growth, and bilateral relations.
The contract further outlines objectives such as promoting understanding of Atiku’s leadership vision, countering narratives from the current administration, and strengthening relationships with American institutions.
Services will also encompass preparing policy briefs, organizing meetings with lawmakers and government officials, and advising on political and reputational risks.
Atiku, who recently moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is expected to seek the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
