Major General Abdullahi Adangba Mohammed (rtd), a former Chief of Staff to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has passed away at the age of 86.
According to reports obtained by The News Chronicle, he died on Wednesday morning at his residence in Kaduna.
Mohammed, popularly known as Adangba, served as the Military Governor of the old Benue-Plateau State from 1975 to February 1976 during General Murtala Mohammed’s military administration.
He was also the founder of the National Security Organization (NSO), which later became the Department of State Services (DSS), serving as its head between 1976 and 1979.
A highly respected and intelligent officer, he worked as Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua from 1999 to 2008. Before then, he served as National Security Adviser to General Abdulsalami Abubakar from 1998 to 1999.
Mohammed was born in Ilorin and was admired for his dedication and service to the nation. May his soul rest in peace.
