Former Minister Pantami Advises Nigerians on Protecting Google Accounts from Hackers

Isa Pantami, the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, has offered guidance to Nigerians on safeguarding their Google accounts amidst growing concerns of potential hacking threats. 

Pantami shared insights on how users can protect their accounts in response to recent reports revealing vulnerabilities within Google’s security system.

Addressing the issue via his online platform, Pantami highlighted the risks associated with hackers exploiting third-party cookies to gain unauthorized access to users’ private data, including Google mails.

He emphasized the importance of being cautious when accepting “cookies” during browsing sessions, as these could potentially serve as entry points for cyber attacks.

Google, in acknowledgment of the security loophole, assured users of ongoing efforts to combat such vulnerabilities.

The tech giant stated its commitment to enhancing security measures, including cracking down on third-party cookies to prevent unauthorized access to accounts.

Additionally, Google recommended actions such as regularly signing out from suspicious or affected devices and enabling enhanced safe browsing features on Google Chrome.

Pantami urged Nigerians to adopt a cyber-smart approach, emphasizing the need for users to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting their accounts.

He advised users to consistently remove malware from their devices and highlighted the benefits of utilizing security control protocols available within Google services, particularly Gmail, which boasts over 1.8 billion users globally.

While acknowledging the security measures in place, Pantami emphasized that no system is entirely immune to threats, urging individuals to always exercise caution and stay informed about cybersecurity best practices.
