Nick Imudia, the former Chief Executive Officer of Konga, one of Nigeria’s leading e-commerce giants, and the current CEO of D.light, a prominent solar energy company, died by suicide on the night of Tuesday, June 25, 2024. The incident took place at his residence in Lekki, Lagos, during an event coinciding with the wedding of popular musician Davido.
Nick Imudia reportedly jumped from the balcony of his apartment. Before taking this tragic step, he made a frantic call to his US-based brother, providing detailed instructions on how to distribute his wealth in the event of his death. He also reached out to his young daughter from a previous relationship, reassuring her that he would always be watching over her and advising her to look to the sky whenever she needed him.
Nick Imudia hailed from the Ika South local government area of Delta State. He had a daughter from a previous marriage, which ended due to irreconcilable differences. Later, Imudia remarried a Caucasian woman, leading many to believe he had found a renewed sense of peace and happiness in his personal life.
Nick Imudia began his professional journey with TCL/Alcatel, where he served as a regional director, contributing to the company’s regional growth and market expansion. In 2010, he joined Microsoft Device and Services as the GM/MD for West and Central Africa. Over the next seven years, Imudia managed operations and drove the company’s success in these regions.
In 2018, Imudia took on the role of CEO at Konga. He introduced innovative strategies that expanded the company’s reach and enhanced customer satisfaction, positioning Konga as a major player in Nigeria’s competitive e-commerce market. After his tenure at Konga, Imudia became the CEO of D.light in 2022. At D.light, he led the company in providing innovative residential solar energy solutions and household products.
The news of Nick Imudia’s suicide came as a shock to his friends, family, and colleagues. Many have taken to social media to express their condolences and share memories of Imudia’s resilience, professionalism, and positive impact on their lives.
One of his colleagues remarked, “Nick was a visionary leader who was always ahead of the curve.
